EDUCATION, MENTORSHIP AND TRANSFORMATION

REALTORS JOY AND CHERIE OF HOUSE TO HOME
EMPOWERING WOMEN PROJECT GREY
Its been way too long since I last blogged but it has really been a busy year so pulling up my socks just before the year ends.

So now that summer is over i have been busy with 2 things. Personal Branding/Headshots..so if you are looking for a refresh or haven't done one this is your chance to book one with me.

The other is Mentoring and Education. I have been for the past year been teaching  (its been nearly 15 years of this but I took a bit of a break after teaching at UNBC  a few years ago).
I have had 8 people this past year that I have mentored  and was seeing what the response would be and how it would work out with my clients.Happy to say we have all come through and learned a lot . Would I do it again?
Yup, I am going to run it again next year and on Nov.
20th I am hosting an open house to let you see the programs I'll be offering in 2020. From 6 week classes to one day workshops to the full Mentoring Program. So if you are someone that has been thinking about this jump on it as it fills up as seats are limited to 6 per classes. Just let me know if you want to come to the Open House and we can get your name on the list. It is free to come.

So what was I doing before spring? 2 projects with other creatives honestly. Hairstylist Jackie Collyer of Sweet Horizons Sailaica of Pommette Beauty Salon and Bri of Urban Alchemy Jewelry teamed up with 6 women who were all going through the choice of going grey or dabbling in it. We Made a video as well and then went on and did another project with men showcasing their hairstyles. What a lot of great feed back from everyone on both projects. So if you want to see more about those just go to my Instagram page ( philomena_hughes) and go back to spring and see the clips .

2017 Easter a Good Day To Start Again

Happy Easter Everyone....Now i have to apologize that I took a few months off writing a blog as I just wanted to get myself caught up on so many things in the office and I had a trip in there as well to Mexico and time just slipped faster than I could keep up with. I have been working with alot of people these last few months on several projects  including putting these together. Thanks to Robyn and Michael and their family for letting me showcase their story to you. I looked back  on all the sessions I would do for people when they were feeling they had to make a choice to "pick" the one or 10 images they loved leaving so many many others aside so I created a package that would allow for clients to keep those memories in a book and an enlargement to see everyday. The book is gorgeous. If you have had a session with me you know our work but if you are interested in having a look at the book give me a call and see it for yourself. Its Free to see me and i would be very happy to meet you. There are lots of occasions that these can work for everyday life in a family, special occasions and gatherings except for weddings ( sorry I gave those up 10 years ago)....though I do baby showers and birthday gatherings - even for Adults!! They start at $2500 . Lots of interesting projects are on the horizon.so I will be back posting at least once a month if not twice. If you are wondering why one has sound and one doesn't. I wanted to see which one people responded more to. If you have an opinion you care to share I would love to hear it. Marketing is always interesting to me.
Of course I am on Instagram if you are wishing to see more images and stories I am at philomena_hughes and I would love to follow you too. I love Prince George and telling its story too and maybe one day YOURS!

Ridge Side Art now at 127 3rd Ave

Oh my I am finally able to let you all know about this wonderful "expansion" of our Art Centro here at 1127 3rd Ave . Her Grand Opening was Sept 24th ( sorry I was not able to let you know sooner - I just returned from holidays ).

Christina Watts is the artist and owner of Ridge Side Art who fills a need she saw in the community for a art supply for budding and established artists. She already had an online business under the same name and represents various Northern Artists  http://www.ridgesideart.com/
But she wanted to take it to the next step and have a storefront. She offers a variety of local artists pieces there as well as paper and supplies. Take a wonder down to see for yourself.
Hours of business are Tuesday to Friday 11-2pm Sat Noon-4pm . There are art demos as well as classes in various art forms so get on her Email List to learn about those. Email submission is on her front page of her Website at the address above.

I am still photographing for sure but you won't find me down there unless we have an appointment just so you know.  If you follow me on INSTAGRAM ( Philomena_Hughes) I've been away all summer.
But I have also been working on a few other projects. The Firemen New Calendar for one which launches Oct 22.  You will see more about it but it will be at the PG GOLF CLUB Pub called Fore Bistro & Patio.

Here is their fb page : prince george fire charitable or follow them on Instagram and watch the behind the scenes I created .

My current project is for the Prince George Community Arts which I am the Vice President of.
We are launching a "InvestLocalBC" fundraising campaign..rather like a GoFundMe but this is a Northern BC Group we are working with. I will link it here when it launches.

Christmas is coming so If you haven't had the chance to have your family portrait updated or you need a gift certificate for Christmas let me know and we will create one for you .

Happy Thanksgiving All.

Ready and waiting to become a Mother - again.

Georgina told me two things at her consult for a portrait session. She said  her due date was May 12th.and  the image she wanted the most was of her pregnant with her second child. I was looking forward to using this outfit though at the time she wasn't sure if we'd be able to.So very glad we did as this is now in one of my all time favorites of a pregnant woman. The shape of the belly is gently accented with the outfit and that colour just works with her. We also worked with her husband and son after these ones were completed. I look forward to hearing about their newborn but feel this is a wonderful image full of anticipation and pride.
Mother's Day is just around the corner and I wonder if it will be the new baby's Birth Date??
What way do you dream to be photographed? Call me and let's talk about it.

A Mother & Daughter Portrait to Cherish

will be separated in January  when she leaves to live in England, for her gap year. Though  both of them are prepared  and agreed that with the Internet it doesn't seem as difficult we also know that it will have its impact ..Letting go is easier said than done.I too will be experiencing this when our 15 year old
daughter goes to France to live for 6 months  in Jan.

Your comment Collette that we caught the essence of Lucy and of your relationship really says it all to me.
Thanks so much for coming back to our studio and letting me be Your Photographer.

Children Grow Up..but our Memories Linger

When the mother of these children hired me  years ago to photograph her family and her Mom who was visiting.. I always want to take the session beyond what I am asked for by looking for the tender moments that sometimes we take for granted and seeing where it takes us.We asked to them to  sit there at their tree-house. The little girl was protective of her little brother.  He had a stone that he didn't want to let go of .I asked her to stay close and if she could give him a kiss and this is what happened.
I love the  colours.I really love  their curled toes and though we do not see their faces enough information is visible.
What is not "visible" is what we feel when looking at it. And that is what makes it so memorable. That is a "successful" image. Not the awards it wins ( which it did) but the feeling it gives us.
Flash forward to this year 15 years later and now the  sister is leaving her little brother to live in Australia.
Their father asked if we could make some images before she left. I've never forgotten this image from years ago and near the end of our session  suggested we try to working with it..The emotions were there, knowing that everything would be  changing soon for them, nearly as much as they had since this image was taken I took the kids to my studio garden where I asked him to choose a stone to hold .These were fake stones with a words engraved on them.. The choice was  Integrity or Endurance. He chose Endurance. That spoke volumes to me.
The last image is one of my favorites...as it represents the reverse role..of he being protective of her but the kids preferred the happier look,so you choose and send me a note about your thoughts below on the comments.!  Thanks again for asking me to come into your lives again..and I look forward to our next meeting.

Our Auction Fundraiser Donation for the Art Gallery 2012

One of the things I hear from our Boudoir clients is how much they LOVE making this a special day for themselves.I LOVE hearing that too.So when you are planning your session treat yourself and pamper yourself as you only will do this a few times ( we hope) in your life! Frances came to us when she won the bid on the fundraiser we did for PG Art Gallery's" Menagerie" Event last month. Her Hair was by Jody at CRAZE (562-6226) and her Makeup was by Heather at Les Beaux Visages Salon (563-3788). Thanks ladies you did a beautiful job. Her  cute hair piece was made by a friend..Your husband is going to love his pic. ssshhh if you know him don't tell him as it is a Christmas gift.
